East Lake Axle Front Left & Right Shocks for Arctic Cat ATV 400/450/500/550/650/700/1000 (2008-2017): A Comprehensive Review

Introduction

This review focuses on the East Lake Axle front left and right shocks designed for various Arctic Cat ATV models, specifically the 400, 450, 500, 550, 650, 700, and 1000 models produced between 2008 and 2017. These shocks are replacement parts intended to restore or improve the suspension performance of older Arctic Cat ATVs. Maintaining a well-functioning suspension system is critical for optimal handling, rider comfort, and overall ATV performance, especially when traversing rough terrain. Replacing worn-out shocks is a common maintenance task for ATV owners looking to enhance their riding experience and extend the life of their machine.

Many ATV owners find themselves needing to replace their original equipment manufacturer (OEM) shocks due to wear and tear from regular use. Over time, shocks can become damaged or lose their ability to effectively dampen vibrations, leading to a bumpy and uncomfortable ride. This is where aftermarket replacement shocks, such as those offered by East Lake Axle, become a viable and often cost-effective option.

Key Features

  • •Direct Replacement: Designed as a direct replacement for the original equipment shocks on specified Arctic Cat ATV models (2008-2017).
  • •Durable Construction: Built with robust materials to withstand the rigors of off-road riding.
  • •Improved Ride Quality: Aims to provide a smoother, more controlled ride compared to worn-out original shocks.
  • •Enhanced Handling: Contributes to better handling and stability, especially on uneven surfaces.
  • •Affordable Price Point: Offers a potentially cost-effective alternative to OEM shocks.

Pros

  • •Improved Ride Comfort: Many users report a noticeable improvement in ride comfort compared to worn-out original shocks. The smoother damping reduces jarring and bouncing over rough terrain.
  • •Enhanced Handling and Stability: These shocks contribute to better control and stability, especially at higher speeds or when navigating challenging trails. This improved handling can enhance the overall riding experience and safety.
  • •Cost-Effective Solution: Compared to OEM replacements, the East Lake Axle shocks offer a more budget-friendly option, making them appealing to ATV owners on a tighter budget.

Cons

  • •Potential for Reduced Durability Compared to OEM: While generally functional, some users report that these shocks may not last as long as the original equipment shocks. Longevity will vary depending on usage and terrain conditions.
  • •Limited Adjustability: Unlike some high-end aftermarket shocks, these do not offer adjustable damping settings, limiting the fine-tuning options for personalized ride preferences.

Who Should Buy?

These East Lake Axle shocks are ideal for ATV owners of the specified Arctic Cat models (2008-2017) whose original shocks are worn out or damaged. They're a good choice for those seeking a more comfortable and controlled ride without breaking the bank. The shocks are particularly well-suited for recreational riders who primarily use their ATVs on moderately challenging terrains. They are also a suitable option for ATV owners who are comfortable with basic maintenance and replacement procedures.

However, for serious racers or those who frequently tackle extreme off-road conditions, higher-end, more adjustable shocks might be a better investment. The lack of adjustability in these shocks might limit the performance for those seeking highly customizable suspension settings.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Are these shocks compatible with all Arctic Cat ATVs?

A: No, these shocks are specifically designed for Arctic Cat ATV models 400, 450, 500, 550, 650, 700, and 1000 from 2008-2017. Check your ATV's manual to confirm compatibility.

Q: How difficult are these shocks to install?

A: Installation typically involves removing the old shocks and installing the new ones. While generally straightforward, some mechanical aptitude is recommended. Refer to your ATV's service manual for detailed installation instructions.

**Q: How do these shocks compare to other brands?

**

A: Compared to high-end brands like Elka or Fox, these offer a more budget-friendly option, sacrificing some adjustability and potentially longevity. They may offer a comparable performance to budget options from brands like High Lifter.

Conclusion

The East Lake Axle front shocks provide a decent upgrade for aging Arctic Cat ATVs. They offer improved comfort and handling at a competitive price point. However, prospective buyers should be aware of their potential for shorter lifespan compared to OEM or high-end aftermarket options.

Expert Verdict

The East Lake Axle shocks are a solid choice for budget-conscious Arctic Cat ATV owners needing replacement shocks. While not offering the top-tier performance of premium brands, they provide a noticeable improvement in ride quality and handling for everyday use.

Mixed feelings on this Fnylague kit. Pros: the colors are vibrant and it really does look "magical" once finished, plus the price is hard to beat. Cons: the tweezers they include are total junk, we had to use our own to get the tiny flowers in place. Also, it’s much smaller than it looks in the pictures online. It’s a decent craft for the price point but dont expect high-end materials.

Honestly disappointed. The motor slowed down after just two uses and the roller is already smooth. I expected it to last much longer than this. Better off just using a regular pumice stone.

I've used the YogaToes brand before and those are much more intense. These Soxsense ones are way more subtle, almost too subtle? If you have a real bad bunion these prob won't do much, but they're decent for general toe spacing.

the lock itself is heavy duty but the plastic around the keyhole feels kinda cheap... idk if it would hold up to a hammer but for the price its fine for daytime parking.
